High School Teacher Assistant (Grades 9-12)
Union Day School is seeking a dedicated and experienced High School Teacher Assistant to support instructional and administrative needs within our 9th-12th grade International Baccalaureate (IB) school. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a teacher assistant or relevant classroom experience and demonstrate a commitment to fostering an engaging and supportive learning environment for all students. This position requires flexibility, adaptability, and a strong understanding of the IB framework and its core values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Classroom Support: Assist the high school teacher with day-to-day activities, including classroom management, organizing materials, preparing instructional resources, and providing one-on-one or small group support to students.
- Instructional Assistance: Support students in understanding and completing assignments aligned with IB standards, including projects, assessments, and extended learning activities.
- Student Supervision: Supervise students during transitions, lunch, and other non-instructional periods as needed, maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
- Collaborative Planning: Work with teachers to implement lesson plans, gather materials, and adapt instructional activities to meet individual student needs.
- Data Collection and Reporting: Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and assisting in maintaining accurate records of student performance.
- Resource Preparation: Help prepare materials for instruction and assessments, supporting the teacher with IB-specific resources that enhance students’ inquiry-based learning.
Qualifications:
- Education: Minimum of an associate’s degree; bachelor’s degree in education or a related field preferred.
- Experience: At least one year of experience as a teacher assistant or related classroom role required; prior experience in an IB school is a plus.
- Skills: Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and knowledge of the IB curriculum and inquiry-based learning.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
